Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick has handed in his resignation effective August 30th.
McCormick made the announcement that he is leaving to become the Bond County Highway Engineer. He notes since he took the Marion County job nearly 13 years ago, he has been driving to work from north of Greenville each day.
“Some of it is the travel,” McCormick said. “Some of it is as my family’s getting older, I need to start getting a little bit closer. I’ve got parents that are getting elderly and a farm and other things that need taken care of. It just makes it easier on me and easier on family to get back home.”
The Marion County Board’s Personnel Committee will meet next week to discuss a potential interim highway superintendent candidate until a search can be conducted for a new superintendent.
