Teachers in the Centralia City School District have been preparing for the coming school year with training for the updated curriculum. Kindergarten and first grade teachers attended training for the new phonics program, and teachers throughout the district have been trained on the new math program. Assistant superintendent Christina Becker says the district is fortunate to have teachers who are willing to commit the time necessary to complete the trainings.
Becker also noted that the total enrollment of students with English as a second language in the district has increased to 40. This year, the district will have a designated ESL teacher whose role is to work with these students and provide learning support in accordance with legal requirements.
The board approved Security Alarm to install fob entrances in the Central multipurpose room for $14,679.
The annual budget hearing will take place at the September board meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 10.
