The City of Centralia will apply for an OSLAD grant next month for improvements to Laura Leake Park.
The decision was confirmed by Mayor Bryan Kuder after Park Advisory Committee member Ricky Garrett requested the city move forward on the application even though work had not been completed yet on improvements being made to Fairview Park in an OSLAD grant awarded last year.
Kuder says he’s not optimistic about the chances.
“We are going to put in for it but the likelihood is probably 90% chance we may not get that money. But there is always the next year. That’s just the way the cycles go.”
The state has removed Centralia from the most distressed status that did not require any matching funds on the last OSLAD grant. If they get another grant, the city will have to put in some matching dollars.
