A new Centralia Police officer with a background in cyber-security and an interest in police canines was sworn into office prior to Monday night’s Centralia City Council meeting.
Justin White grew up in St. Louis. Centralia Police Chief Chris Locke in introducing the new officer said he was impressed with what he said about wanting to join the department.
“Justin said I have a strong will to bring communities together. And I believe safety and security are the cornerstones of developing this. Police officers are often viewed in a bad light. I would like to be part of the improvement of public image of law enforcement. And I think that says a lot of our foundation and what we strive to do and for you to have that insight just on your initial act is pretty inspiring.”
Locke also noted they pay attention to the actions of individual candidates during the testing process and called White the most dedicated and hard driving applicant he’s seen in a long time.
White also briefly spoke after he was sworn in by City Clerk Kim Enke.
“The process of testing was rigorous. I did strive and try to be on point as much as I possibly could and put my best foot forward. I appreciate everyone who has helped throughout the process and made this go as smooth as possible. And I look forward to serving the community and making the impact where I can.”
White will begin training at the Police Academy on August 19th. After 16 weeks there, he will complete three months of field training with another Centralia Police Officer.
Locke says with the appointment of White, the department has two other openings. He anticipates naming candidates to fill those positions in the near future.
