Kinmundy City Council moves forward on grant requests for sewer system and sidewalk

The Kinmundy City Council Thursday night agreed to move forward with a multi-year grant request to replace its sewer system.  An income survey will go out with the water bills next week and Mayor Angie Diss says it is important all of them are returned so income information is available for the grant request.

Lower-income communities can receive 100-percent grant dollars.  The first grant request to be submitted later this year would seek $3 million for phase one work to address the sewer lagoon.  Money could be sought in future years to replace all of the sewer lines in the community.

The board also agreed to seek another grant to allow for sidewalk construction from the main part of town up Route 37 North to the new Dollar General Store.

The board will be seeking a part-time police officer. The pay will be $23 an hour.  Applications will be available at city hall.   Diss says the part-time officer is possible because of the money the city is receiving for doing police work in the Village of Alma.  The new officer along with the police chief will patrol both communities.

Work is underway on the Nature Trail at the old city lake.  Dedication of the walking train in memory of Steve Wilkins is planned for this fall.
