Odin School Superintendent Belinda Kirgan told the school board Thursday night the summer renovation work at the school is complete and ready for the first day of classes for students next Tuesday.

Kirgan outlined the improvements completed.

“In the elementary wing we’ve got all new flooring, and the floors are shining and look really good,” Kirgan said. “We’ve got new windows and new safety film out of our safety grant. In the small gym we also replaced the flooring… and we’re replacing the backboards and getting new scoreboards.”

Kirgan says there is also a new Eagle logo in the small gym with the school’s new vision statement.

“Embrace tradition and plan for the future. This town is full of a lot of traditions. We want to embrace that, and also look into the future.”

The board approved a silent auction for the scoreboard and backboards being taken out of the small gym which will get the scoreboard and backboards from the large gym once they are replaced.

An open house and back to school celebration is set for four to seven Monday night August 12th.  Principal Quinton Marcum says there will be hot dogs, hamburgers, and various games as well as an inflatable.  He reports the goal is to get students excited for the coming school year which begins the following day.

The board acted on a number of personnel issues.  The board accepted the resignations of Salina Starr and Lisa Metcalf as paraprofessionals and Vanessa Hanke as high school cross country coach.

The board hired Donna Bailey as Special Education Teacher and Hannah Rovenstine and Kelly Smith as paraprofessionals.  The board hired KD Lynch and Abby Wolf as student council sponsor.  Ryan Hargis was hired as high school cross country coach and Rebecca Merrill as junior girls assistant softball coach.  Terry Nix was named boys baseball volunteer coach, Caroline Riddle as volunteer high school cross country coach, and Bruce Parrish as volunteer junior high hitting coach.
