City of Salem still trying to find water leaks into city hall

Salem City Manager Annette Sola says an earlier rebuilding of a roof and wall on the rear of the city hall building following a collapse earlier this year failed to stop the water problem.

Sola is recommending to the city council Monday night that Foresight be hired at a cost of $2,730 to look for additional problems.

“We had contractors in and they put in a new roof, they sealed all of that up but one of the issues that we found and apparently it’s been an ongoing issue for many years from the best we can tell….is there is water that is seeping between two layers of brick inside the building.  It would be between the council chambers and the hallway that leads back to the break room.”

Sola says Foresight will use roof core samples, further inspections and drone flyovers.

“Right now we are going back to the roof and going to see if we can find areas of maybe tuckpointing that has failed or a leak in the actual roof itself, so we can seal that up so that we can get this wall taken care of.”

Sola hopes Foresight will be able to provide assistance with a repair plan after completing their inspection work.
