While the cleanup will continue for some time, both Ameren Illinois and Tri-County Electric completed restoration of electricity in Marion County by late Tuesday afternoon.

Many power lines were tangled in trees which made it difficult to restore power quickly.   At one point more than 1,500 Ameren customers in Salem alone were without power and more than 500 Tri-County members in rural parts of the county.

Salem City Manager Annette Sola says eight public works employees were called out to help remove trees and limbs from the streets Monday night and Tuesday morning, but they were initially hampered in the dark by not being able to see downed power lines.  She reports as power company crews inactivated damaged lines, city crews were able to come back and remove the trees to allow restoration work to continue.

Sola says private property owners will have to remove damaged trees from their own property from the latest storm as the city doesn’t have any more places to take damaged trees.   She reports city crews will be concentrating on city right of way and clearing damaged trees from Bryan Memorial Park.
