Kids Day at the Marion County Fair is Monday.

This is the 20th year for the program that offers free activities to kids who come to the fairgrounds between nine am and two pm.

One of the organizers is Marion County Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Teacher Meggan Heistand who says children will receive a take-home bag and a lunch ticket when they enter the grounds near the free stage.

“At the free stage, you can spin to win a farm animal prize and enjoy a fun day activity from the University Illinois Extension.  We have a Day on the Farm where you can dig for potatoes, pick apples, milk a cow, steer head roping, and even milk a real goat.  You can also see the famous Longhorn Ace from Landers.  Jake’s Take Aim will have a turkey hunt.  The kids can plant a succulent with the DAR ladies.  The Antique Power Club will have corn shelling.”

Heistand says some special activities are planned for the 20th Anniversary.

“We will have a photo op set up to get your picture taken in front of the painting done by Kayla Benzing.  Extension is setting up a fair-themed book walk activity.  We have a wagon hoop shoot.  The sheriff’s department is providing snow cones.”

Heistand says all the kids will also receive a hot dog lunch and a ride on the Merri-Go-Round.

She notes that all the activities are free due to the 40 sponsors who help make the event possible.
