Ronald (Ron) Hunter, 70 years old, passed away at his home with his loved ones by his side.
Ron was born in St. Elmo, IL, on March 6, 1955, the son of Earl and Lulu Belle (Craig) Hunter Massey. On April 21, 1978, he married the love of his life, Debbie (Minor) Hunter. And they shared 49 wonderful years together.
Survivors include his wife Debbie of Junction City, his son Wade (Angie) Hunter of Sandoval, and daughter Lacey Hunter of Centralia. He had 4 beautiful grandchildren. Elena and Alaric Hunter of Sandoval and Ryleigh and Brayson Marshall of Centralia.
Also surviving are his mother Lulubelle Hunter-Massey of Kinmundy, siblings Dwayne Hunter (friend Gina Pate) of Odin, Brad (Patty) Hunter of Alma, Greg (Kathy) Hunter of Iuka, Pam (Pete) Pokojski of Iuka, Carla (Brad) Williams of Omega, Tania Davidson of Kinmundy, sister-in-law Sherry Minor and (friend Walt Sanders), brother-in-law Allan (Mary Lu) Minor, and several nephews and nieces, and 50 plus years of friends who are family Larry and Sherry Hodge of Odin.
He was preceded in death by his father Earl Hunter, stepdad Max Massey, beloved father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Sharon Minor, an infant brother, a nephew and his beloved Schnauzer Molly.
Ron was a hardworking man. Over the years, he was lucky enough to work for many family-owned businesses. Starting at Wedekemper Inc. in Carlyle, to driving a semi for many local trucking companies. He also spent many years working for Farthing Vet Supplies in Odin. Then, finally, retiring from Walgreens in Mt. Vernon. He served on the city board in Odin and volunteered at the Odin Fire Department. He really loved the water fights with his buddies.
Ron enjoyed working in his yard and was very meticulous about his lawn. Ron’s love for motorcycles started at a young age. That love turned into a love for cars as well. Ron had an absolute love of music throughout his life. Whether it was a live band or just hanging out with friends listening to a DJ or a Jukebox. He took great pride in his knowledge of music trivia. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, who became family to him and got to know him as “Dad.”
Ron had such a big heart for his family and friends, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Per Ron’s wishes, there will be no service. There will be a Celebration of Life at Izzy’s Hideout at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, memories, and love for a man who touched so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval. Cremation rites were accorded by Day-Macz Funeral Home.
