Centralia High School’s board received an update on the new turf football field at the board meeting on Thursday. Superintendent Chuck Lane says that work on the field is close to completion, with the field surface finished and work still to be done on the sideline areas, pouring sand, and adding markings to the turf. Lane says the workers’ current target is to be finished on August 1, and he is confident that work will be finished ahead of the original goal of August 12.

Principal Reid Shipley says the stained-glass window in Trout Arena has been fully installed, and the last step of that project is setting up lighting behind the window. There will be a dedication ceremony for the window sometime within the next few weeks, though an exact date has not been set. Alongside the window, plans for putting up an Orphans mural featuring the names of donors and a plaque describing the window’s history are being considered.

The board approved a tentative agreement with the teachers’ union featuring a 14.5% pay increase over three years: 5.5% in the first year and 4.5% in the two following years. These numbers include the 2.8% annual step increase. Lane calls the agreement a good deal for both sides and expects the union will approve it when it comes to a vote next month.

Registration dates are set for August. Annex student registration is August 9 from 9 to 11:00 AM and from 1 to 3:00 PM. On the main campus, senior registration is August 9, junior and sophomore registration is August 12, freshman registration is August 13, and make-up registration is August 14. Each day of main campus registration runs from 9 to 11:15 AM, and from 12:30 to 3 PM. Freshman orientation is the morning of August 15, and the first full day of school is August 16.

Families of incoming freshmen and returning students should have received packets in the mail from the school. Those who did not should visit Centralia High School’s main office which is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. For families who have difficulties with internet or computer access to complete pre-registration, the school will be open on August 7 and August 8 for those who need assistance.

The board accepted letters of resignation from Chris Beard as Annex security guard and Dave Jack as a part-time aide.

The board approved the employment of Tracey Starr as Assistant Principal, McKenna Bacilio as a Spanish teacher, and David Durbin as a part-time custodian.
