Jr Gold Day 1 In The Books…..3 Area Boys Above Cut Line, Still A Long Way To Go

Detroit, Mi. – Day 1 of the Jr Gold National Individual Bowling Championships are officially underway after the opening day of competition yesterday.  The first of 4 days with different sports patterns that each athlete will have to negotiate on his/her own.

In the U18 Boys Division there are 1331 athletes in the Division competing with the top 191 to move on to the Advancers Round after Thursday.  So far above the cut line after Day 1 was Carterville’s Evan Flath who shot 852 over the 4 games for a 213 average and is sitting in 64th place.  O’Fallon’s Connor Lunning is 83rd shooting 842. The group of Salem Wildcat bowlers is led by Keaton Gullion who shot 821 for a 205 average and is 124th currently and is above the cut line with a lot of bowling left.  Ryan Detering is 257th shooting 779, Silas Moats is 264th shooting 778, Rhett Detering shot 738 and is 434th.  Christ Our Rock grad Rhett Runge finished his opening day with a 645 and is in 969th place.

In the girls U18 division 545 athletes are competing with Vandalia’s Macy Jones finishing the 4 game set with a 681 averaging 170.25 on the day and sitting in 219th place.  The top 78 will advance to the Advancer Round on Friday.  Salem’s Elena VanHoutin shot 526 in the first block and is 522nd.
