A grease cooking fire on a stove at a home northwest of Mt. Vernon destroyed the stove but was put out before it could do any additional damage.
The fire was at the Phyllis Duncan of Strawbridge Road.
Jefferson Fire District firemen say Duncan had the fire mostly out on their arrival. Jefferson Fire worked with Mt. Vernon City and Woodlawn Firemen, who responded with mutual aid, to clear the home of smoke.
The fire call came in at 7:08 Sunday evening.
