The District 23 Junior Legion Baseball Tournament continued last night at North Side Park in Breese.  In the opening game, Breese knocked off Patoka Post 543 by a final of 5-2.  Kaiden Harrell went 2-3 with a run scored for Patoka.  Kaiden Walker also singled and scored a run and Drew Haines added a single.  The game was tied at 3 until the 5th when Breese would plate 3 runs.  Garret Shumate was the starting pitcher for Post 543 and went 4.2 allowing 2 hits and 3 earned runs.  Drew Haines worked the final 1.1 allowing 1 hit.

The loss dropped Post 543 into the elimination game last night against Trenton in a game Patoka won 8-6 scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to turn a 6-4 deficit into an 8-6 lead and ultimate win.  Ryker Dodson and Harrell drove in 2 runs each.  Shumate and Hoffman also drove in runs.  Logan Butts singled and Haines added a hit.  Haines got the start going 3.2 and Hoffman picked up the win in relief going 3.1 innings.

That sets up the championship series that will be held today.  Breese and Patoka will play at 5:30, if Breese wins the tournament is over, if Patoka wins, they would force an ‘if necessary’ game tonight at 7:30 that would be winner-take-all.
