Kaskaskia College officials have announced Illinois Community College Board approval to offer a third agriculture degree.
College President George Evans says the new ag degree is technology heavy.
“GPS, the reading of your fields as far as utilizing drone technology when it comes to application of soil, fertilizer anhydrous ammonia. It’s really more of the technical side. So its adding that additional aspect that a lot of these implement dealers need for technicians so if you are going out surveying a 100 acre plot that needs a certain amount of x,y,z this is that type of program where the testing and equipment needed to train on and be taught by our faculty members.”
Evans says they will be hiring a third agriculture teacher to teach the new courses. The two current agriculture degrees center on animal science and agronomy/soils.
