Patoka Post 543 Take Lead And Never Look Back In Win Over Trenton Post 778 In Jr Legion District Tournament Opener

Patoka Jr Legion Post 543 easily dispatched Trenton Post 778 JR Legion on Wednesday, 13-1 at North Side Park in Breese.

Post 543 jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Logan Butts singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run. Post 543 extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Ryker Dodson and Luke Shumate.

Patoka added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Garrett Shumate was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Dodson drew a walk, scoring one run, and Shumate scored after tagging up.

Dodson started on the bump for Post 543. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and one run over three innings, striking out three and walking one.

Joey Corbin stepped on the hill first for Trenton Post. They surrendered five hits and eight runs (seven earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking five.

Drew Haines tossed two innings of no-run ball for Patoka in relief. The reliever surrendered one hit, striking out two and walking none.

Dodson and Shumate each collected two hits. Dodson and Shumate each drove in three runs.

Patoka had patience at the plate, accumulating 10 walks for the game. Ky Walker and Dodson led the team with two walks each. Lance Nix stole two bases. Jr Legion Post 543 turned one double play in the game.

Lucus Flanagan and Corbin each collected one hit for Trenton Post 778 JR Legion.

Trenton falls to an elimination game tonight at 7:30 to face the loser of the 5:30 winners bracket game between Patoka and Breese.
