A 63-year-old Carbondale man who told the 911 dispatch center he had crashed his car along I-57 was eventually found following a search of highway.  George Cirzan was then taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries.

Salem Police say the 911 system could not pinpoint Cirzan’s location.  He believed he was trapped in his vehicle.   Cirzan said he believed he had just passed a rest area so the search began near the rest area south of Salem.   After not locating him, sheriff’s deputies began looking further and eventually found lights in the bushes off the side of the southbound lanes just south of Farina.

A deputy was able to get his door open and Cirzan was transported by ambulance to Salem Township Hospital.

The Salem Fire Protection District was staged to help once the vehicle was found, but returned to the station after deputies were able to get Cirzan out of his vehicle.

The crash was reported at 2:41 Tuesday morning, with the search for the vehicle taking about a half hour.
