Connie Vancil, age 78 of Salem, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Connie was born on September 29, 1946, in Centralia, the daughter of James and Maxine (Thomas) Davis.  She married Gary Tate, and he preceded her in death. She later married Gary Vancil, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughter, Crystal Hicks and husband Jeff of Salem, Michelle Slater and husband Charles of Odin; son, Jim Tate and wife Amy of Mississippi; grandchildren, Mallory Knaak and husband Randall, Robert Hicks and wife Julie, Lindsay Green and husband Blake, Logan Slater and wife Alexandra, Bailey Tate, Ian Tate, and Jack Tate; great-grandchildren, Braelan Knaak, Emersyn Hicks, Lavina Jo Hicks, Riggin Hicks, Grayson Green, Sadie Green, and Marna Slater; sister, Claudette Boone and husband Billy of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and a sister, Nancy Munds.

Connie worked for many years as a Nurse at Big Muddy Correctional Facility.  She was a member of the Marion County Church of Christ.  She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them.

Private Family interment will be held in Zion Grove/County Line Cemetery in Kell, IL. Crouse Funeral Home in Salem is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences can be left at www.CrouseFH.com
