Construction is now underway on a new Scooter’s Coffee on West Main Street in Salem.

The business that is drive through only will offer a variety of coffee drinks, smoothies, and some food items, including breakfast.

Rachel Wallace of Effingham is building the Scooter’s just east of the Subway Restaurant which she also owns.  She says the building should go up quickly with a mid-September grand opening planned.  The drive through will make a loop around the building utilizing the same entrance and exit off West Main Street.

Wallace anticipates the Salem Scooter’s will have 20 employees.  Hours will be 5:30 am to eight pm daily.

The City of Salem issued a building permit for the building valued at $704,575.   The stand alone building will contain 665 square feet.

Wallace has already opened Scooter’s in Centralia, Benton, Mt. Carmel, Harrisburg and Olney with plans to build additional Scooter’s in Mt. Vernon and Vandalia.
