A 28-year-old Opdyke man has been sentenced to a total of 57 years in prison in Jefferson County Court this week after pleading guilty to three Class X sex assault and pornography charges.

Anthony Powell receives a 45-year sentence for predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13.  Under the law he will have to serve 85-percent of that sentence. Powell also pleaded guilty to two counts of child pornography production.  He received a six-year prison term on each, with 50-percent to be served.  All of the sentences were ordered to be served consecutively for a total of 57 years.

Powell was arrested in April following an investigation that followed the receipt of cyber tips through the ICAC Task Force.  A search warrant was executed on Powell’s cyber accounts, electronic devices and his residence leading up to the charges.

Assistant Jefferson County State’s Attorney Julie Kosuzek handled the prosecution.
