An 80-year-old Salem man received only minor injuries Wednesday afternoon when his motorized scooter was struck by a semi on West Main at the I-57 interchange.

Salem Police say James Renfro of West Lovell was traveling westbound on Main Street when a semi coming off the southbound exit ramp struck him and began pushing him down the roadway.  Police report the driver of the semi, 58-year-old Mark Weems of Patoka, didn’t see the scooter and didn’t realize he had hit it and was pushing it down the road until he was flagged down by witnesses.

Police report Renfro refused to take an ambulance to the hospital but did go via private vehicle.  His only injury appeared to be to one of his knees.   Renfro was walking around following the crash which was reported at 2:23 Wednesday afternoon.

Police say no one saw the crash occur to see who was at fault so no tickets were issued.
