Virginia Sue Dugan, age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6th, 2025, in her hometown of Centralia, Illinois. Virginia was born in Centralia to Orville Lewis and Mable (Simpson) Lewis on April 18, 1936. She married Bobby Dugan on February 12, 1956, at the First United Methodist Church in Centralia, and he preceded her in death on August 23, 2005.

A lifelong resident of Centralia, Virginia spent 31 years working at Murray Center, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication to her colleagues and the individuals under her care. Her compassionate spirit extended beyond her professional life as she actively participated in several organizations. A proud member of the Central City Lioness Club, she also found deep spiritual connection in the Presbyterian Church. Virginia was a devoted member of the DAV Women’s Auxiliary and generously volunteered at the Historical Museum in Centralia, always eager to give back to her community.

She leaves behind a legacy of love in the family that survives her, including her son Bill Dugan and his wife Cindy of Central City, and her daughter Karen Campbell and her husband Bruce of Centralia. Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren: Tim Dugan of Centralia, Tara Waters and husband Tony of Centralia, and Tracey Fortag and her husband Michael of Huron,SD. Additionally, Virginia’s eight great-grandchildren—Chase Moulder, Connor Moulder, Dylan Fortag, Ethan Fortag, Mikey Fortag, Lilly Sue Fortag, and Rayann Fortag, and brother Charles Lewis of Columbia, MO, and several nieces and nephews will carry forward her legacy

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Mabel Lewis, her beloved husband, Bobby Dugan, and her son, Gary Dugan.

Funeral services for Virginia will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Joannie Naraghi officiating with a visitation taking place from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home on Saturday before the time of services. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia.
