SSM Health acquires new radiology equipment

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital has acquired an advanced computed tomography (CT) scanner to enhance cardiology, emergency medicine, and oncology clinical capabilities. This scanning device generates higher-quality images than traditional CT scanners. SSM Health says that by utilizing this technology, healthcare providers can diagnose and treat patients with greater precision, leading to clearer answers for patients. Additionally, the shorter scan times reduce patient exposure to radiation.

“We are very grateful for our new cardiac imaging equipment as it will allow us to diagnose patients with heart disease quicker, safer, and more accurately than we have been able to do so previously,” states Walter Parham, MD, FACC, Cardiologist and Regional Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services for SSM Health in Southern Illinois.

Screening for coronary artery disease will be among the uses for the new scanner. By detecting areas of plaque buildup in patient arteries, this technology aids in early diagnosis. For oncology, the scanner’s high-quality diagnostic imaging capabilities enable early tumor identification and characterization. Additionally, its bariatric imaging capacity ensures that bariatric patients can receive comprehensive care close to home, eliminating the need for transfers to other hospitals.
