The theme of the Little Egypt Festival this year will be ‘Music to My Ears’.

The announcement was made by General Chair Jay Henke.

“We wanted a fun theme this year and this is the first year the entire committee has got to pick a theme in years.  We didn’t care what it was as long as it was fun so we came up with “Music to my Ears”.  Anyone doing a float or music in the parade, pick and choose what you want and have fun with it.”

And with a music theme, Henke says they selected a Grand Marshal who is part of Salem’s music history.  He reports Doyle Combs will return to Salem to lead the parade.

“Mr. Combs was a director in the 70s at SCHS as well as directing the One Way Singers, I believe he was the music director at the Baptist Church.  He wore a lot of hats around town musically so we thought he would be a great choice for Grand Marshal.”

Henke says entry forms for the parade will be out later this summer, but he hopes the announcement will allow those entering the parade to begin thinking about their entry.

The Little Egypt Festival is held the first Saturday of October each year.  The event will be on October 6th this year.  The two pm parade concludes a day of festivities in Bryan Memorial Park and the downtown area.
