A Centralia police officer on patrol Tuesday night encountered a two-year-old walking down the street near 3rd and Lincoln Street.
About 20 minutes later as police were beginning a search for the toddler’s home, they received a frantic call from the mother who reported her child had disappeared out a door that had been left open. The two-year-old had traveled about two blocks from his home on Linden Street before being spotted by police.
The toddler was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital to be checked and DCFS was notified. The child was later released to the mother.
The incident occurred at 7:45 Tuesday night.
