By Bruce Kropp May 28, 2024 | 10:14 AM

Ameren Illinois says customers in harder-hit areas should expect a multi-day restoration event with most customers expected to have power back by midnight Tuesday night.

Ameren Illinois currently has more than 850 resources engaged in getting the power back, including internal, mutual aid, and contractors.    Due to the extent of the damage and the multiple affected operating centers, the crews are working around the clock to get power restored as quickly and safely as possible.

As of 10 am, there were still 1,145 outages throughout the Ameren territory.  Salem’s outages have dropped from 510 at 5 pm Sunday to 69.   Centralia was reporting 15 outages, Odin 2, and Shattuc 4.  The outages in Sandoval, Patoka, Odin Alma, Farina, and Laclede have now been completely restored.

Tri-County Electric is reporting 128 without power as of 10:00 am.  69 outages remain in the Salem area, 34 in Alma, 8 in Odin, and two in Iuka.

Ameren Illinois is offering the following customer safety tips:

  • Residents are reminded to stay away from downed power lines because these lines may still be energized.
  • Call Ameren Illinois at 1.800.755.5000 as soon as possible to report a downed line or an outage.
  • Stay away from brush, shrubs and fallen trees that may be hiding these lines.
  • Sign up for outage alerts at Ameren.com/alerts. Ameren will text or e-mail restoration updates after you report an outage. Customers will receive notification on the restoration status of individual outages. Those who are signed up for alerts will receive alert updates through their preferred channels. All others will receive a phone call.
  • If you are experiencing an outage be sure to unplug or protect sensitive computer and electronic equipment with a high-quality surge protector.
