A vacant home southeast of Patoka was destroyed by fire Sunday night.

Patoka Fire Chief Blake Hyde said the fire was at 3438 Berry Road.   He reports the roof was caving in and the entire structure was on fire upon their arrival.

Hyde said the home is owned by Janice Powless of Salem.  Neighbors indicated the home had been vacant about three months.  There were no utilities.   Hyde believes lightning may be responsible, but there is nothing to prove it.  The fire was discovered at 11:21 Sunday night, about four and a half hours after the line of severe storms had moved through.

Patoka received mutual aid assistance from Sandoval in putting out the blaze.
