Fire damaged a west-side Salem home early Monday morning.
The fire was at the Jonathon Bryan home in the 2100 block of Old Texas Lane.
Salem Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton believes the fire was electrical and began near some electrical wiring in the attic. He notes while the fire put out a lot of smoke, its location was difficult to determine. A heat-sensing camera eventually located the fire.
It was put out quickly, but firemen had to pull down the ceiling of the kitchen and utility room to reach it. There was only minor smoke damage to the living area.
While the owner reported smelling smoke soon after power was restored, Fulton believes the storm was not the cause.
The fire call came in at 1:30 Monday morning with firemen on the scene for about one and a half hours. Odin and Kell Firemen provided mutual aid at the scene while Kinmundy-Alma Firemen stood by in the event of another fire.
