By WJBD Staff May 24, 2024 | 8:27 AM

The Centralia High School Board held its final meeting of the school year on Thursday. Friday is the final day of exams, concluding the school year for students. Over the summer, students in need of additional course credits are offered the chance to attend summer school. Summer school classes will take place mostly online and courses are available in Math, English, and Civics. Forms and information can be found under “Forms” on the CHS website.

CHS has several school improvement projects planned over the summer, most notably the new turf football field from GeoSurfaces. That project is expected to completed in August before next school year begins. Upstairs classrooms will be painted by RP Coatings, and minor landscaping work will be done in front of the school. In Trout Arena, a restored stained glass window from the old high school is planned for installation starting in June, with the work taking roughly five weeks in total.

In resignations, Caleb Shipley resigned as special education teacher and assistant football coach effective at the end of the school year. Raigen Schwartz resigned as science teacher and head softball coach effective at the end of the school year. Shannon Cooney resigned as CEO teacher effective at the end of the school year.  A search will now begin for a new person to head up the Little Egypt CEO program.

In new hires, Blake McKay will be employed as Spanish teacher, Ray Kauling will be employed as long term in-school suspension teacher, and Derek Bennett will be employed as English teacher, each pending successful completion of employment history.  Kauling is expected to be hired later as an assistant football coach.
