A 70-year-old rural Iuka man was transported from the scene of a riding lawn mower accident near his home in the 2800 block of Bannister Road south of the Apple Ridge Road intersection on Tuesday afternoon.
Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says Mike Donley apparently looked away momentarily toward the road when the lawn mower began sliding into a 15 foot ditch. The mower ended up on top of him. Neighbors were able to lift the mower off of Donley before Marion County Sheriff’s Department and Iuka Firemen arrived on the scene. Firemen then used a stokes basket to lift Donley out of the creek. He was then moved to an Air Evac Helicopter that landed in a nearby field to take him to a St. Louis Hospital.
Initial information indicates Donley sustained several fractures, but no life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.
