What has become the yearly “sliming’ of school administrators and the school resource officer continued at Franklin Park Middle School in Salem on Monday.
The ‘sliming’ is a reward for exceeding the food drive goal each year. Taking their turn to have a bucket of ‘slime’ dumped over their head were Principal Tyler Lux, Assistant Principal Marita Williams, and School Resource Officer Mason McMeen.
Lux is a veteran of taking the slime.
“You have it built up in your mind and then it actually hits you and realize how heavy it is. It’s just not going to come off. It’s quite the experience. But it’s good for the kids to have some motivation.”
This is McMeen’s first year as school resource officer and he said he was ‘voluntold’ he would take a bucket of slime.
“The weight of it is kind of surprising, as heavy as it is. It is just great to see the kids’ reaction. The reward they get to do. They have a blast with it.”
And what is the slime? 8th-grade teacher Nicole Rexilius concocted the recipe.
“I had to buy 30 big boxes of Jello. I had to buy 30 pounds of flour. There is water in there and baby soap, that’s it. That’s how you make it.”
Then it is loaded into large plastic buckets for the trip outside the school and dumped over the heads of the three staff members by students selected for the honor. The event has become an annual one for several years on the last day of class for 8th graders.
