The Centralia City School Board has accepted the resignation of Centralia Junior High School principal Jordan Queen.  He will be departing at the end of the school year to accept the position of superintendent in Central City to replace the retiring long-time Superintendent Tim Brannon.

Centralia superintendent Craig Clark said that Queen’s new position is well deserved, and his contributions in Centralia will be missed.

“I’ve gotten to know him really well as a teacher, as an assistant principal and as a principal. It only makes sense that he’s making that next step to become a superintendent,” Clark said. “His strengths and what he brings to the community is something that will be hard to replace. Central City is getting a treasure… the kids, the staff, and the community will just love working with Jordan.”

In regular business, the board approved an incident response plan pertaining to cybersecurity and data protection. This plan outlines the responsibilities of staff to use technology with care and prevent a potential data breach, as well as defining the roles of staff members by position in dealing with cybersecurity incidents.

The board approved several bids for the upcoming school year: the bid from Kohls for food, the bid from S and L for bread, and the bid from Prairie Farms for milk. The board authorized the superintendent to create a tentative budget for the 2024-25 school year which is scheduled for hearing at the September board meeting.

Eighth grade graduation will be held Tuesday, May 21 at 6:00 P.M. May 23 is the last day of the school year for students, and May 24 is the last day for teachers.

The following resignations were accepted: Jordan Queen as CJHS principal, Brandon Cook as Scholar Bowl coach, Stephanie Unverfehrt as Schiller School nurse, and Ashley Thompson as Jordan classroom paraprofessional. The board also accepted an intent to retire letter from Darla Miller effective at the end of the 2027-2028 school year.

The following hires were made: Erica Leger as bus driver, April Kent as CJHS secretary, and Nicole Schwartz as ESY teacher.

Several transfers were approved for the next school year: Brandon Veller from 7th Grade Science to Fourth Grade, Amber Winchester from CJHS support teacher to 7th Grade Science teacher, Mia Debernardi from Second Grade to First Grade, and Casey Hughes from First Grade to Schiller P.E. teacher.
