Jefferson County Sheriff’s officials have released details on a Thursday afternoon three-vehicle crash that resulted in two injuries.

Chief Deputy Blaine Uhls says the collision occurred at Davis Road and Route 37 north of Opdyke.

Reports indicate a car driven by 82-year-old Mary Smith of North Post Oak Road in Walnut Hill was traveling southbound when she made a left-hand turn in front of a northbound vehicle driven by 80-year-old Peggy Knowles of Jamison Boulevard in Mt. Vernon.  After impact, the Knowles car ran into another southbound car driven by 44-year-old Cynthia Nix of Shufeldt Road in Salem.

Knowles was airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.  Smith was transported by ground ambulance to a Mt. Vernon Hospital for treatment.  Nix declined any medical treatment.

The crash occurred at 2:18 on Thursday afternoon.
