FedEx Freight has announced it will close the Mt. Vernon service center along with six others around the country this year as the division continues to make alignments to its freight network.
Fed Ex officials told FreightWaves the seven facilities represent approximately one percent of FedEx Freight’s overall door count. Some team members will be offered opportunities at nearby FedEx facilities.
No specific dates have been set for the closure and it was not immediately clear how many workers would be impacted.
The Fed Ex official said no decisions of this nature are made lightly and are the result of much thought and consideration for the needs of their business.
A second Illinois facility in Chicago Ridge is among the others scheduled for closure.
Another 29 service centers were closed by FedEx Freight last year as part of an efficiency drive.
