Nancy was born in Centralia, Illinois, on April 2, 1951, to Lyle and Dorothy Black. She graduated from Patoka High School in 1969 and went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Jerald W. Hocking on September 6 that same year. They were married for 55 years.

Nancy was retired from Irvington Grade School and spent the last 13 years enjoying her time as a grandparent. She loved telling mouse stories to her grandkids, enjoyed baking and cooking, decorating for Christmas, gardening, reading, and catching up on the phone with her sisters and family. Her greatest desire in life was that her kids and grandkids would know Jesus. She was actively involved in her church, The Rock in Centralia, and lately spent her Sunday mornings watching several online services and praising Jesus through worship.

Nancy’s life will be forever cherished by her surviving family; her husband, Jerry W. Hocking; her daughter, Suzanne Hocking Petersen and husband Timothy Petersen; her son, Eric Hocking and wife Shaina Hocking; five grandchildren, Gabrielle, Elijah and Isaiah Petersen, Karley Squibb and SatieBre Stevenson; three sisters, Kathy Bergen (Jack Bergen), Gayla Ball (David Ball) and Carole Childers (Jim Childers); her close uncle Dean Black (Eloise) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nancy will be greeted in Heaven by her parents, Lyle and Dorothy Black as well as several other cherished family members and Annabelle.
