Alnora Rebecca Bringwald, age 89 of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at her home in Salem.

Alnora was born on January 5, 1936, in Giro, Indian, a daughter of Walter Carl and Ruth Ella (Whittington) Tolbert.  She married Howard Maurice Bringwald on July 13, 1956, in Glezen, Indiana, and after spending 63 years united in marriage, he preceded her in death on February 8, 2020.

Survivors include her children, Royce Alan Bringwald and wife Janet of Salem; and Joyce Ann Bringwald and fiancé Glenn Brehm of Salem; grandchildren, Alexis Bringwald of Salem and Katie Bringwald and special friend David Weber of O’Fallon; great-grandson, Brennen Maurice Bringwald; a brother, Royce Tolbert and wife Joyce of Olney; a sister, Ruth Helen Baehl of Haubstadt, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; and many close and special friends acquired over her lifetime, including her special “oldest granddaughter” Betsy McCarty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ruth; her husband, Howard; several brothers and sisters; a brother-in-law; and a niece and a nephew.

She worked for a time at Hanson’s Manufacturing in Indiana, making watches, and later worked as a babysitter in her home for over 30 years.  She was a dedicated homemaker, always keeping a neat and clean home.  Baking, something she did every day, was her joy; she was known for her Amish bread, which she shared with countless people.  Another thing she was known for was her delicious Christmas candy, which again, was shared with neighbors, friends, family, and others.

Private interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Salem.  Crouse Funeral Home in Salem is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences and memories can be left at www.CrouseFH.com.
