By Bruce Kropp Apr 10, 2024 | 11:20 AM

Phillip N. Palm, age 66, of Carlyle, passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, IL, on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Phil was born in Centralia, Illinois, on July 28, 1958, a son of William and Arlene Palm. He married Judy L. Unverfehrt on September 20, 1980, and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2006. He later married Linda Davis on August 2, 2008, and she survives in Carlyle.

In addition to his wife Linda, Phil is survived by his parents, William and Arlene Palm; his children, Justin Palm and wife Christy of Red Bud, Illinois, Brandon Palm and wife Staci of Centralia, and Matthew Palm and wife Katelyn of Breese; his loving grandchildren, Kenzi Palm, Jozlynn Palm, Cassidy Palm, Lincoln Palm, and Graham Palm; his brother, Doug Palm and wife Jodi of Carlyle; a niece and nephew, Elliott Palm and wife Rachel and Jianna Palm; and his in-laws, Carl, Gene, and Mark Unverfehrt and their families.

In addition to his wife Judy, Phil was preceded in death by his in-laws, Kenny and Judy Davis, and Alvin and LaVerne Unverfehrt.

Phil recently retired from the Farmers State Bank of Hoffman after 48 dedicated years. He served in nearly every role at the bank; he started as a teller, worked in the loan department, and most recently served as the President of the bank and was seated on the board of directors.

Phil was a faithful lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, where he served as elder, treasurer, and board of education president. He found joy in life’s simpler pleasures, whether coaching his children’s little league baseball and basketball teams, admiring his toy tractor collection, or enjoying a good conversation over a bottle of wine or a cold Budweiser.

A Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 10, 2025, with Rev. Brett Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle from 3:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, and again on Thursday morning at Trinity Lutheran Church from 9:00 – 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family suggests memorial contributions in Mr. Palm’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church of Hoffman, Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School, or to St. John’s Lutheran School in Red Bud. Donations will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231. Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.ZierenFuneralHome.com.
