Carmelina Meling Barnett, 85, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:56 am on March 28, 2025, at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon. She was born July 24, 1939, in Pinamungahan, Cebu, Philippines to the late Sotero Peña and Cieilia (Quibobo) Gines. Carmelina married Alois “Pete” Barnett on October 27, 1979. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2005.
Carmelina is survived by her stepchildren, Barney Barnett of Mount Vernon, Mark Barnett and wife, Traci of Kentucky, Laura Fleener and husband, Tim of Mount Vernon, Dora Pendley and husband, Ben of Kentucky, and Paul Payne of Kentucky; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carmelina was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Kay Barnett; stepson, Roy Barnett; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Carmelina was of the Catholic faith. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday, April 7, 2025 at 10:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Carmelina’s honor to Grace Community Church.
