The Wamac City Council on Monday evening approved a motion to appropriate $92,000 in Motor Fuel Tax money to oil and chip the city’s streets in 2024. In other action, the council approved the appointment of Jordan Claar as zoning officer. Claar, who also serves as an officer with the Wamac Police Department, will receive a $275 monthly stipend for his work as zoning officer.
The council also approved the purchase of hose for the city’s sewer machine, at a cost of no more than $1,750.
Mayor Jackie “Butch” Mathus offered a report to the council on Sunday’s Wamac Area Easter egg hunt. Mathus commended all the organizers, sponsors and volunteers who helped make the event a success. He estimated that well over 700 children, and possibly more than 800, took part in the Easter egg hunt in Wamac City Park.
