A 41-year-old rural Texico man has been charged in Jefferson County Court with two Class X felony counts of armed violence and being a felon in possession of a weapon following an investigation that began over the theft of anhydrous ammonia.
Eric Powell of the 17,000 block of East Divide Road reportedly was found in possession of a firearm, anhydrous ammonia, methamphetamine, and a controlled substance when a search warrant was executed on his home Friday. A second person in the home, 43-year-old Jeffrey Woods of Centralia, was also taken into custody on weapons and drug charges. However, he was not charged Monday in Jefferson County Court. Instead, he was transported to the Marion County Jail on an outstanding no-bond major traffic warrant.
Powell will have a hearing Tuesday to determine if he has to stay in custody as the case proceeds.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department says they were led to Powell following an investigation into the theft of anhydrous ammonia from a home in the 15,600 block of East Baseline Road in rural Texico.
