Marion County Clerk Steve Fox says election judges did an excellent job in Tuesday’s election allowing all the polls to open on time at six am and a quick count of the votes Tuesday night.
Fox also says his prediction of low voter turnout unfortunately was right on target.
“Voting was a little down from what we’ve seen in the 2020 and 2022 primary as we talked about ahead of time. About 21% right now. Election night was one of the best we ever had since I’ve been clerk. Everything came together. All of the judges from the precincts were back here by 8:30 and we were able to get the results out and on the website by 9:00.”
A total of 5,310 votes were cast out of the 24,370 registered voters in Marion County. 4,515 took Republican ballots and 795 Democratic ballots. There were 405 vote-by-mail and 788 early votes cast.
