David Loyd, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the age of 77 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. He was born on Wednesday, July 2, 1947, in Centralia, Illinois, to Emit Loyd and Sylvia (Shook) Loyd.
On August 2, 1980, he married Debbie Garren and she preceded him in death on October 10, 2016.
After graduating from Centralia High School in 1965, David was drafted into the United States Army, where he trained as a combat medic and Operating Room Technician. He proudly served in a MASH unit, with his last duty station being Fort Riley, Kansas. His service to the country was a source of great pride for him.
Following his military service, David embarked on a long career as a delivery driver. Initially, he drove for Pepsi Cola in Rockford, Illinois. Later on, he returned to Centralia and dedicated himself to Prairie Farms, where he worked diligently for 31 years until his retirement.
David was known not only for his work ethic but also for his passions and hobbies. He cherished time spent with family, loved hunting and fishing, enjoyed bowling, and had a green thumb for gardening and planting flowers. His laughter and wisdom nurtured his family and friendships alike.
David is survived by his son, Damon Loyd and his wife Laura of Elkhorn, WI; daughters, Roxi Loyd of Beloit, WI, and Teala Brown and her partner Travis Hawkins of Illinois. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Sara, Riley, Makayla, Gage, Jolynn, Daxton, Teagan, Amber, Mallory, Chase, Kalob, Chloe, and Briar, and great-grandchildren: Graysen, Aiden, Noah, and Journey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Debbie Garren; daughter, Jesse Erin Loyd; brothers, Donald and Elvis; and sisters, Doris, Agnes, Gladys, Rita, Darlene, Mildred, Mary, and Delores.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a visitation held at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home, Centralia, Illinois, on Friday, March 21st, 2025, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, with the funeral service following immediately from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm with Pastor Steve Upchurch officiating.
