A fire destroyed a mobile home and shed northeast of Mt. Vernon late Tuesday afternoon.
Jefferson Fire reports no one was at home on the Rodney and Jana Mullinax home in the 19,000 block of North Hills Lane when the fire began. It was spotted by a passerby.
Firemen say the mobile home was engulfed in flames on their arrival. The fire had also spread to a storage shed and damaged a vehicle parked nearby. The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to investigate.
Jefferson fire reports a quick knockdown. They received mutual aid assistance on the scene from Mt. Vernon City, Wayne City, Kell and Bluford. Salem and Waltonville Firemen stood by at the Jefferson Fire Station in the event of another fire.
The first fire alarm came in at 4:45 Tuesday afternoon. Firemen didn’t clear the scene until seven pm.
