.Cranston D. Smith, 102, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:45 pm March 10, 2025 at his home.
He was born December 8, 1922 in Mount Vernon to the late Earl L.C. and Carrie I. (Milburn) Smith. Cranston married Doris R. (McMeen) Harvey Smith on September 4, 1966 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with nearly 42 years of marriage before her passing on March 27, 2008.
Cranston is survived by his children, Steven D. Harvey and wife, Susie of Mount Vernon, Judith Lynn Montgomery and husband, Ray of Weaverville, North Carolina, Doris Jean Shephard and husband, Coy of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Miriam Nell Brooks of Springfield, Illinois, and Kathleen J. Kirkpatrick of Springfield, Illinois; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and longtime family friend, David Boyer.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Cranston was preceded in death by his sons, Paul Smith and Michael Harvey; and brother, Milburn Smith and wife, Helen.
A Visitation will be held Monday, March 17, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Logan Street Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Brother Alan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Panther Fork Cemetery in Texico, Illinois. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made in Cranston’s honor to Logan Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
