Fire has heavily damaged a Centralia home.

Centralia City Firefighters say the fire was burning in the backyard and the back of the Megan Alvery residence at 471 Bicknell when they arrived on the scene Monday afternoon.

Centralia Fire Chief Jeff Day says the fire heavily damaged the kitchen and another back room and had started to move into the attic before it was knocked down.  There was considerable smoke damage to the entire home.   Alvery reportedly had left the home about 45 minutes before the fire was discovered.   Firemen were able to get out multiple pets who escaped injury.

Firemen say the cause of the fire is currently undetermined, but they are looking at a burn pit in the backyard as a possible cause as the fire started on the outside of the home and moved inside.

Sandoval and the Centralia Fire Protection District provided mutual aid assistance.

The fire call came in at 2:46 Monday afternoon with firemen on the scene until 4:22 pm.
