It is with great sadness that the family of Billy “Bill” Heflin, 92, of Salem, passed away at Salem Township Hospital on January 28th, 2025.
He was born August 6th, 1932, to James and Marie (Baker) Heflin in Haines Township in Marion County. He married Altrus Lorene Michael on June 25th, 1954, and they would spend 70 amazing years together.
Bill is survived by his wife: Lorene; his three children: Ricky David Heflin, Randall Dwayne Heflin, and Barbara Heflin.
He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Marie Heflin; his twin sister: Betty Lee Heflin; and brother: Joe Leslie Heflin.
Bill graduated from Salem Community High School in 1950 and joined the United States Navy after graduation serving in the Seabees in Korea and the South Pacific. Bill retired from Bettendorf Stanford in 1995. He and Lorene enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, woodworking, family history research, as well as traveling the country visiting with family and friends. Bill’s memory will be cherished by those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home Chapel, with Mike Sutherland officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery in Salem. A visitation, for family and friends, will be held from 10:00 am till the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Centralia VFW. They will be accepted at Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home, PO Box 97 / 310 N. Broadway, Salem, Illinois 62881, who is honored to be of service to Bill’s family at this time.
