It was an all time great individual performances in Salem boys’ basketball history as Senior Connor Tennyson finished with 37 points and 13 rebounds as Salem fell in overtime to visiting Freeburg 70-64. Tennyson’s 37 was 2 off the record set by both Joey Combs in 1983 and Mike Chitty in 85. Matthew Hawkins score 38 back in 2004.
In the game, Salem trailed by 14 points in the 2nd half before roaring back and getting a Tennyson bucket late in regulation to send the game to overtime. Tennyson missed a 3-pointer at the end of the game that would of given him the school’s first ever 40-point game.
The Wildcats are back in action tonight with a rematch of their SIT battle with Centralia when they head to Trout Arena. JV tip at 6 followed by the varsity contest around 7:30 on WJBD. Between the two games, Annies senior Jalea Sherad will be honored for recently scoring her 1000th point in their win at Mount Vernon.
The SC Cougars fell to St Elmo/Brownstown 39-22. Freshman Westin Neilson led SC with 8.
