Larry Nichols, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the age of 78. He was surrounded by his loving family and sidekick, Yadi Mo.
Born on December 9, 1946, Larry brought joy and laughter to everyone he encountered. He served his country with valor as a Marine in the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart for his bravery and dedication. After his honorable service, he spent a decade as a radio operator on the Burlington Northern and later worked for 22 years at Whirlpool Appliances in Lebanon, Mo. His journey also led him to a role as a semi-driver for Wayne Carter.
Larry was a man of many talents and passions. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Centralia Orphans, and he had a particular fondness for fried chicken, spaghetti, and steak. His mornings were often spent on the front porch with a cup of coffee in hand, watching the world go by. He delighted in solving Word Search puzzles, playing music, singing, and engaging in friendly card games and shuffleboard matches. He could often be found playing the drums, one of his favorite pastimes.
As a committed member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, and VFW, Larry found camaraderie and purpose among fellow veterans and community members. His warm spirit and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Nichols, and his cherished children: Sherry (Nichols) Owens and husband Mike, Penny (Nichols) Brooks and husband Mark, Jesse Nichols and wife Amy, Laura (Brown) Pokojski and husband Johnny, John Brown, Tambour Eller and partner Evie Haberer, Rachele Carr and husband Andy, and Terri DeGraffenreid-Brattin. His legacy lives on through several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who brought immense happiness into his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Edward (Adkisson) Nichols and Elna Pauline Amadei Nichols, and his dear sister, Terri Dawn.
Larry will always be remembered for his kindness, resilience, and the love he shared with his family and community.
