Mt. Vernon and Irvington get low-interest loans for water system improvements

Both the City of Mt. Vernon and the Village of Irvington are getting water infrastructure loans from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.  Of the total $ 66 million investment throughout the state, $ 4.6 million in loan forgiveness will be provided for meeting the loan rules for either the Small Community Rate or Hardship Rate.

Mt. Vernon is receiving $ 3.1 million for the construction of a half-million-gallon elevated water storage tank.  the project will include the construction of the water main and the demolition of the existing L and N Tank and all related appurtenances to make the project complete and operational.  Mt. Vernon will receive $47,345 in principal forgiveness.

The Village of Irvington will receive $398,500 to sandblast and repaint the interior and exterior of its 100,000-gallon water storage tank.  The project will also include safety improvements to the water tank first constructed in 1966.  Irvington will receive $199,250 in principal forgiveness.
