It wasn’t a good night for Caleb and Darian Pruitt of Kell as they lost two vehicles, one in a crash and another when it caught fire.

Salem Police say 31-year-old Caleb Pruitt was traveling westbound on West Main when he collided with a pickup truck driven by 61-year-old Keith Sheeler of Rough Lane in Salem as Sheeler was making a left turn onto Missouri Avenue. Both drivers declined hospital treatment.

The crash occurred at 6:52 Tuesday night. Both the Salem Fire Protection District and United Medical Response were also called to the scene.

While on the way to assist her husband, Salem Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Bill Fulton says the car driven by Darian Pruitt caught fire. She told fire officials she was driving down Hoots Chapel Road just south of Tonti Road northwest of Salem when her engine failure light came on. She then smelled smoke. After getting out of the car, she saw flames and the vehicle was quickly fully involved in flames. Fulton says the cause of the fire was not determined.

Salem Police say Caleb Pruitt’s car was totaled in the crash and the car driven by Darian Pruitt was destroyed in the fire.
